DMW boss, Davido’s recent announcement that he is over with his manager and friend of over 3 years was greeted with disbelief by many industry watchers, with many believing it was one of the many stunts of the self-proclaimed coolest kid in Africa. But when he went ahead to announce a new manager, an unknown industry name, Ayo George, it became clear the lad is not joking. Many believe the real issue at the bottom of the his disaffection with Kamal is the overbearing impact of his Sony Music deal, which hasn’t given him little room to do his thing locally the way he likes, with delays in release of songs and works ultimately getting him angry. While Kamal may want to persist for the deal to go on, Davido is tired of being told what to do. This led to the Snapchat rant that also announced the sack.
1. He has remained incommunicado. All phone lines on his official website are switched off. The e-mail address returns an instant delivery failure report. Certainly, the man is up to something
2. Davido’s package remains fully spread on his management portfolio. The full site is all about Davido till date. Nothing has been taken down. Even if they have a standing contract, doesn’t a sack terminate such? Why keep all Davido’s profile if he has accepted the sack?
3. No counter claims. Even though he refuses to talk to us, the decision not to join issues with his estranged ‘guy’ could mean he doesn’t want to spoil a chance to get back on the team just yet. Loyalty is a tool that works on many, no matter the offense at hand. Is he thinking he can change Davido’s mind? The accusations of using juju are grave enough for anyone to speak up, but not if you desperately want your job back.
4. Maybe he is waiting for the juju to take effect? Well, that remains to be seen.
Until Kamal counters otherwise, this is what his statement on this case will be in absentia. Or, what do you think? Would you allow, hypothetically speaking, an accusation as grave as that of you trying to use juju on your employer to just go without putting up any defense?
