President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, approved the removal the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), Mr. Danladi Kifasi.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), Mr. Danladi Kifasi has been ordered to proceed on terminal leave with less than two months to the expiration of his tenure.
It was gathered from presidency sources that the President ordered Kifasi who is due for retirement in December to vacate office in order to ensure that his administration adheres to the federal character principles as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Leadership reports.
In a letter conveying Buhari’s directive which was issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal noted that Kifasi’s terminal leave was effective from yesterday, October 20.
Although the SGF did not give any reason for the sudden removal of the HoS, a source at the presidency told Leadership that Kifasi was asked to proceed on terminal leave because he is from Taraba State which is in the same North-East where the current the SGF hails from.
It was learnt that Kifasi’s removal might be linked with a hint that he was having a running battle with some permanent secretaries who did not find his leadership style comfortable.
It was also learnt that Buhari is already considering the appointment of a new HoS from the south, with three permanent secretaries from that part of the country already penned down as Kifasi’s possible replacement.
